An Uncommon Look at the Common Loon with Ian Clark
With their haunting cries and beautiful plumage, common loons are an iconic symbol of the northern wilderness. Join us for an Uncommon Look at the Common Loon, a slideshow exploring the natural history of loons in the North Country. West Newbury, VT-based photographer Ian Clark spent over 2,520 hours kayaking with loons over the last 12 years and taken over 350,000 photos of loons and their behaviors.
Ian spent many years operating commercial photo labs and tackling technical photographic problems, including a stint as the Manager of the Photographic Section at NASA’s Langley Research Center. He has a B.S. from the Rochester Institute of Technology and did his master’s work at the S.I. Newhouse School of Public Communications at Syracuse University. He has been a news stringer off and on since 1975. Ian is a Juried Member of the League of New Hampshire Craftsmen, the New Hampshire Art Association and the 802 Arts House.
