The Friends of the Philip Read Memorial Library

The Mission of the Friends of the Philip Read Memorial Library is to support the services and programs of the library, raise funds, and increase public awareness in the community.

Libraries are the heart of a community.

To raise funds to finance these goals, an annual book sale is held. The Friends provide programming, museum passes, electronic databases ( Hoopla-streaming service, Kanopy-films, Overdrive-ebooks, audiobooks), and equipment (the smart TV), etc. The Friends take part in community events such as a float in the 4th of July parade, community celebrations, receptions for local authors and artists, Halloween, and more. Since 1998, the Friends have been members of the NH Adopt a Highway program, cleaning two miles of Rt. 12A through Plainfield Village four times a year.

In 2016, the Friends of the Philip Read Memorial Library established a Scholarship for graduating seniors from Plainfield. To date, 15 awards have been made (totaling $8,100). Funding is provided by specific donations and the annual bake sale held during the book sale.

Joining the Friends of the Philip Read Memorial Library is a wonderful way to help the library, meet people, and serve the community.
