Use of Library Bulletin Boards

The purpose of the library bulletin boards is to provide the residents of Plainfield with information regarding cultural, civic, educational, and other activities of local interest.  Bulletin boards in the libraries’ foyers are used for posting of local community events and town postings, not as a collection point for donations to charities or organizations. Spaces within the libraries are for library-related postings only.

Local civic organizations, non-profits, etc. are welcome to use the foyer bulletin boards following these general guidelines:

1.  Preference will be given to posters/announcements that are 8.5” x 11” or smaller. Larger signs are posted space permitting.

2.  All material posted on the bulletin boards shall have the posting date written on the bottom right-hand corner.

3.  Items will remain on the bulletin boards for no longer than one month or immediately after the event or when more space is needed, whichever comes first. Library staff will have responsibility for removing items.

4.  The library staff will give priority to material with the broadest community appeal when space is limited.

5.  The library staff and/or board of trustees reserve the right to remove any material at any time that is considered inappropriate or offensive.  Organizations may appeal to the Board of Trustees for the reconsideration of material.

6.  Local businesses may post advertisements in the Local Business Information binders. Library staff will maintain these binders.

7.  Materials, leaflets, or posters which advocate the election of a candidate, political or otherwise, may not be displayed at the library or on library property.

8. Petitions will not be allowed.

Posting on the bulletin boards does not constitute an endorsement by the Plainfield Public Libraries or the Board of Trustees.
